Almond producing regions
United States
In the United States, almond production is concentrated in California, where six different varieties of almonds are grown. California production is characterized by a period of intense pollination during the late winter by rented commercial bees that are trucked across the United States to the almond orchards.
Spain
Spain has several commercial varieties of almonds grown in Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia, Andalusia, Aragon and the Balearic Islands. The most cultivated are: Largueta, Comuna, Guara, Ferragnes, Garrigues and Marcona. The latter is different from the others, with a short, round, relatively sweet and delicate texture. Its origin is unknown and it has been cultivated in Spain for a long time.
Australia
Australia is the largest almond producing region in the southern hemisphere. Most almond orchards are located along the Murray River corridor in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
